About 42 years ago, the same situation took place in Bahar Dar where two chaplist (now, Pente) Polytechnic students were caught red-handed sharing the gospel to the Woito beggars. They were attacked by a large mob organized by the Gebez of St. Giorgis church. They were maltreated and abused by the mob, the police, the prosecutor and the judge, all of whom were pro-Orthodox extremists. After the students were imprisoned for three months, an MP approached Emperor Haile Sellassie who gave them full amnesty. I know both of those men now serve the Lord in America.

I applaud the judge's courage who went against the wish of the false accusers and witnesses. May God bless the judge! I believe the local people should be educated on the constitution that secures freedom of expression. The EOC and local Evangelical church leaders should foster tolerance, peace and dialogue among their respective members.

No power can withstand the truth. We should therefore, continue to share the love of Jesus and continue to pray for the spread of the gospel despite the challenges.
